Subject & Composition

This piece captures a pivotal moment of connection, where fatigue and fear meet compassion and care. In the park at night, a chance encounter between two people, both suffering from diabetes, results in a lifeline for one of them. The art portrays this quiet heroism, with Raul’s calm, determined presence contrasting with Kim’s vulnerability. The subtle glow around Raul and Kim represents the delicate line between life and death, fate and randomness.

Style & Technique

The artwork combines digital realism with an ethereal, almost divine quality around the central figures. AI-generated textures enhance the emotional and physical exhaustion on Kim’s face, while Raul’s warm light contrasts with the night’s darkness. The city park backdrop fades into the night, symbolizing the blurred boundaries between life and death.

Color Palette

Dark blues, purples, and soft neon accents for the night-time setting, contrasted with the glowing warmth around Raul. The palette evokes both the tension and comfort of the scene—uncertainty mixed with warmth and hope.

GUARDIAN ANGEL

Kim feels like she is leaving her own body. Unable to think clearly, needs sugar quickly. Kim suffers from diabetes, she knows that what she is experiencing is dangerous, but is in a limbo where she feels nothing but the strongest fatigue she has ever felt. Need sugar now! Kim has no idea where she is, she is concentrating on staying awake. All her strength is used to fight sleep or fainting. It is night in Madrid, and Raul is cycling through the park to save time. He is going on night duty at the nursing home where he is an auxiliary nurse. Raul also has diabetes, and he recognizes the symptoms of the woman he passes in the park. He turns around. Kim, who is now on the verge of fainting, is advised by the helping "angel" Raul. He calls an ambulance, calls his employer and explains the situation, and is in the ambulance to the hospital. The ambulance crew is busy rescuing and driving with blood sugar. Raul focuses on talking to the lady who is now rolling her eyes. He gets a temporary connection. The end of the story is that Kim is okay, and after treatment at the hospital, she visits Raul at the nursing home where he works, and expresses her deepest gratitude. Was it a coincidence that Raul took the shortcut through the park that night, or was he the saving angel Kim needed? There is a lot between heaven and earth, and in Kim's eyes Raul will always remain as her guardian angel.
