Curation by Curatyy™ for "CUTTING CORNERS", @Morten Klementsen
Subject & Concept:
This artwork is part of the ongoing series "Do as the sayings," where the physical and metaphorical meet in a raw and rebellious expression. Jake, the central character, embodies the act of "cutting corners" in both a literal and figurative sense. He uses his sledgehammer to reshape his environment, following his father’s legacy, and bending the rules of society. A humorous yet thought-provoking take on how people compromise quality for convenience in today's fast-paced world.
Composition & Technique:
The composition juxtaposes the human element of Jake with the urban environment he disrupts. The figure is portrayed in motion, holding the sledgehammer, while corners are shattered around him. The piece is vivid with sharp contrasts, vibrant colors highlighting the chaos and the defiance.
Mood & Tone:
The mood is playful but with a sense of underlying rebellion. There’s an irony in Jake’s actions—cutting corners not just physically but also in his approach to life. The piece captures the tension between personal ambition and societal expectations.
Style & Medium:
A modern digital surrealist approach, using AI as a foundation and manual refinements to bring the figures and actions to life. The use of color and light emphasizes the intensity of Jake’s actions, with the corners standing in stark contrast to the fluidity of his movements.
Narrative:
Jake is the modern embodiment of the saying, pushing boundaries in an almost absurd manner. He cuts corners to save time, save money, and keep his family safe, but at what cost? The underlying question is whether this approach is truly sustainable or just a temporary escape from reality.
CUTTING CORNERS
A new art contribution in my series: "Do as the saying." Jake is a man of action. He especially takes the expression CUTTING CURNERS seriously. When he has the time and opportunity, he brings his Sledgehammer with him in his car, and if he sees a Corner, he makes the expression a reality. Last night Jake cut 18 corners in the city, not a worthy result, he thinks. Normally he cuts about. 10 corners in a night. Jake doesn't have much advice, so he cuts corners where he can. In today's society, it is a completely acceptable action. He is following in the footsteps of his father, Jarvin, who is well known in the city for cutting the most corners. His father told him that: Cutting corners are just doing something poorly in order to save time or money. Jake does this with pleasure, after all, he has a family to take care of. Besides, corners always get in the way, don't they?
